Want to root your Transformer Prime Android tablet?
Why root your Transformer Prime Android tablet?
Rooting your tablet device gives you the power to do things like install rooted apps, backup/restore apps, backup/restore/install custom ROMs, and even overclock it.
For those of you on Windows, I made a simple batch script that automates the rooting process. For Mac or Linux, please see How to Root Transformer Prime on Mac or Linux instead.
Step 1. Before we begin, make sure you’ve installed USB drivers on your Windows computer. (See How to Install USB Drivers on Transformer Prime.)
Step 2. Connect your Transformer Prime to your Windows computer.
Step 3. Download TransformerPrimeRootICSNew.zip(9.4.2.11 or later) or TransformerPrimeRootICS.zip(9.4.2.7 and earlier) and unzip (uncompress).
Transformer Prime ICS on 9.4.2.11 and later:
Download TransformerPrimeRootICSNew.zip
Transformer Prime ICS on 9.4.2.7 and earlier:
Download TransformerPrimeRootICS.zip
You will find a bunch of files, double-click on “runme.bat” to start rooting your Transformer Prime.
Step 4. Press Enter to begin the rooting process. You can go for a coffee break, take a smoke break, or etc…etc…
Step 5. Your Transformer should reboot 3 times and it should be rooted.
Step 6. Verify you have Superuser app on your Transformer Prime. If so congratulations! You’ve rooted your Transformer Prime in just about 5 minutes.
You can now run rooted apps and Superuser Request window will pop up.

Thank you sooooo much!
So there was an update for ICS on the Transformer Prime today. After it forced itself through, superuser no longer works (ie apps requiring root can no longer obtain it from superuser). I tried setting superuser to automatically allow all requests for root, as well as the default ‘prompt’ option. No luck. I tried updating superuser, but superuser is now denying root access for ITSELF so no luck. I tried unrooting the Prime with no result. Finally factory reset the entire table and tried to root again on a fresh install. None of the methods out there (including this one) work. Is anyone else having a problem with this post firmware update?
I can’t use this tool to root my tf201. I don’t know why. My system is up to date and it is not rooted before. I also tried the vipermod root tool. It is not working on my tf201 either.
Hello.. Totally new to this and totally confused.. I guess before I can root my Prime, I have to install SU files. Where do I install them?
I tried to root but it says a few files are not copies over.. and I do not see the superuser app.
DITO, WON”T ROOT!!!
I get a messages telling me that my adb server is out of date. killing…
and a bunch of unables. HELP PLEASE!!!
It fails after reboot #2

New tf201… took it out of box and it wanted to ota update. Rom is now 4.0.3.
I have followed directions to no avail…. any other suggestions on rooting 4.0.3?
The file set Transformer Prime ICS on 9.4.2.11 and later:
Download TransformerPrimeRootICSNew.zip
Worked like a charm.. Thanks!
Today (09/02/12) Asus released 9.4.2.13 and I noticed following changes:
- Bluetooth v9.26
- Wi-Fi: v6.1.1.18
I can confirm that above TransformerPrimeRootICSNew.zip (9.4.2.11) does NOT work for 9.4.2.13
Hopefully, you will be able to look into that soon.
Thank you.
Works fine, just tried it on 9.4.2.14, double-check your drivers.
Use Voodoo OTA rootkeeper it worked for me only trick is use it before u update and u will be fine.
I followed everything step by step and it did what it claims to do. However when I tried to set up titanium backup it wasn’t allowed root access. So I tried updating the su binary and superuser was denied access. I kept trying out of frustration and after 4-5 attempts it worked. So I went back to titanium and it still was not granted access. So I downloaded a terminal emulator and typed in “su” and it stated I had no root access. Stumped….
If your TFP is rooted before you update to the 9.4.2.13 download two apps from the market
1 Voodoo OTA rootkeeper
2 Root Check Basic
Run the backup from Voodoo OTA rootkeeper FRIST!!!
Then update to the 9.4.2.13 ( this will break you root)
After the update does its thing run the Root Check Basic and press the Verify Root Access and its should say it failed.
Now go run the Voodoo OTA rootkeeper and restore root ( Its should say everything is good)
Now run Root Check Basic again and press Verify Root Access and it should say Congras This device has root access!
I AM ROOT!!!!
its working with the last update?
version 4.0.3
kernel 2.6.39.4
Yes works fine, just rooted it on latest OTA. Works on all OTAs upto 9.4.2.14 which is the latest.
Just purchased a TFP. Performed an update to ICS which is 9.4.2.15. Will it work for this version?
Is there a way to reinstall back to gingerbread or ICS?
I want to know how to get back to square 1
Thanks for the video.
My question, can I un root the tablet?
thanks.
hey does anybody know if this also works on 9.4.2.15?
no it is not working on 9.4.2.15
just tried again no luck on 9.4.2.15
Very nice – I just rooted my Prime (never rooted before) – Works fine with 9.4.2.15 [02/21/2012]. It worked like a charm. I had a copy of ADB installed, but that’s a minor nuance…
Again thanks to the team who made this – it worked like a charm.
NP!
Works great on 9.4.2.15-20120221 …thanks
I did something wrong when I was rooting my transformer prime and installing busy box. Now I can’t use terminal emulator or any other app like that. They just crash when I open them. The /system/bin/bash file is missing. I can’t adb shell. When I attempt I get “- exec ‘/system/bin/sh’ failed: Exec format error (8) -”. I tried wiping/factory resetting to no avail. When I try to adb remount the system partition to make it writable it says “remount failed: Operation not permitted”. I tried to fastboot flash clockworkmod recovery and found out that fastboot isn’t working. When I boot into recovery mode I get an image of an android lying on his back with the !triangle icon. I tried flashing clockworkmod from rom manager and that didn’t work. I tried to install busybox from the busybox app and it said there was something wrong with the superuser. This is the strangest thing is some applications act as though the rooting was successful but others do not and I think it is because I broke the shell. This seems like a lot of rambling, I know, but if anyone could help I would be incredibly grateful.
Is anyone having a failed root access with the new firmware that came out today??
9.4.2.21??
I have !
Didn’t work – My ICS version is 9.4.2.21-20120323 and no busybox, no super user, nothing…
But the script run well. no errors, nothing…
well… I did upgrade to .21 and I had switchme installed – now I cannot unlock the device
any clues?
Nothing I can find will root mine including this tool.
Oh well… hopefully someone will figure this out.
I took the ota update on my new TF201 to 9.4.2.21 (20120323) to get ethernet support before I tried rooting it thinking it would be easy enough to do later.
oops.
I have unlocked it and tried Viper, Razor, Nachoroot and finally this to no avail. If SU needs to be in /system/bin
I don’t see how it can ever be put back without root.

Should I downgrade / root /? I’m really interested in Virtuous Prime.
I just successfully rooted my .28 and .21 TF201′s with the DebugFs method by MiloJ:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1704209 (RTFM twice). My TF201 was at .28 and one was at .21, I own two.)
- Download http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1129437&d=1339683024 to your PC and extract the file
- Take your prime out of it’s dock and directly connect it to your PC. Go to settings ->development and make sure USB debugging has a checkmark next to it (ie, enabled
C:\dev\adb devices
List of devices attached
BCOKAS005225 device prompt now}
adb reboot
{wait for the reboot}
adb shell
{Now the real work}
$ cd /data/local
$ toolbox chmod 755 /data/local/debugfs
$ /data/local/debugfs -w /data/local/tmp
debugfs: cd xbin
debugfs: rm su
debugfs: write /data/local/su su
debugfs: set_inode_field su mode 0106755
debugfs: set_inode_field su uid 0
debugfs: set_inode_field su gid 0
debugfs: quit
$ rm /data/local/tmp
$ mv /data/local/tmp.back /data/local/tmp
$ exit
{Done! let’s reboot and get root!}
adb reboot
adb shell
$ /system/xbin/su
# id
id=0(root) gid=0(root) ….
# exit
{Perform a bit of cleanup and exit! Your machine should be rooted!}
$ rm /data/local/su
$ rm /data/local/debugfs
$ exit
I rooted my .28 TF201 in 15 minutes. If it doesn’t work, re-read the original thread by MiloJ at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1704209
hi every one
i could root my transformer prime but not with this work
my build number is .21 and i saw any body couldn’t root so i am telling this this way.
i tried all ways but i just can do that with the lastest version of super one click.
1-download the super one click v2.3.1 version
2-active usb debugging
3-connect your prime to pc
4-open super one click
5-select root
now your device will be reboot for 3 times and after that you should see superuser on you device.
may it was not , try agane and it will be root.

Why Are the videos down…. I have 9.4.2.28 and nothing is working for me at all i have tried everything for rooting and the USB Drivers and nothing seems to work or look the same
I think this guide is depreciated for many versions. Try this tool instead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1706588
can you update to 10.4.2.17 root method this isn’t working for me
android version 4.1.1
hi, i’m new to rooting android devices, i own a transformer prime and i wish to root it
is this root guide compatible with rooting build number JRO03c.WW_epad 10.4.2.18-20121122 ?
I have the ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T Tablet and was wondering if this could be rooted using your method?
Currently I have:
Android ver 4.1.1, Kernel ver 3.1.10-00003-gb0003ba
build JR003C.US_epad-10.4.2.20-20121228
PAD-EC20T-0216
I also have the keyboard dock
I also have an HP TC4400 tablet running Ubuntu 12.04 in addition to this HP TC1100 running dual boot WinXP
and Ubuntu 10.10 and Ubuntu 9.10 w/Compix enhancements from Wacom – pretty cool rotating workspace, shame it wasn’t carried over into the latest Ubuntu….
I did have Android x86 running on my TC1100 but swiping with a Wacom pen is awkward at best, that’s why I
bought my ASUS.
Hope to hear an affirmative answer to my question…..
Thanks
Larry
